Test of Courage- Juneau, Alaska 2007

My family and I went on a vacation to Alaska for our second time last summer. We hiked a lot of trails, but never saw a bear we could see well. We really wanted to see one closer than we did. Now this was our last chance!
The trail we were on was going to be our last trail we hiked before we left. The main reason we were on the trail was so we could see a moose by the river.
After we saw a moose we were heading back to the hotel, and I turn around for two seconds .then the next thing I new I ran into a big I mean big male black bear standing in the middle of the trail. I was so scared, but I tried to say calm because I knew it was more scared of me then I was of him. So I remembered what my dad told me to do. I calmly back away and started talking, and it ran away like a chicken. I was so glad it ran off. My parents were too.
I think I was very courageous, because if I didn’t stay calm the bear could have really hurt me. Something even worst could of even happened. That is why I think I’m very courageous.
